Spring is here and at Wayside Gardens we want you to have your best garden yet! We’ve cultivated a list of our favorite new perennials of 2019 so that you can fill your landscape with some of our most unique, exceptional, and highly recommended plants! Here are five perennials that we’re obsessed with for 2019!

Paeonia ‘Pink Hawaiian Coral’

Radiating warm sunset colors on enormous blooms with the look, fragrance, and staying power of the finest roses, ‘Pink Hawaiian Coral’ is one of the most dramatic Peonies ever introduced. Measuring 5 to 6 inches across, these fully-double flowers are sweet-scented, arising from mid-spring into early summer on strong, plump plants.

Developed by master hybridizer Roy Klehm, ‘Pink Hawaiian Coral’ is very highly sought, forming a rounded, lush mound 3 feet tall and wide in the sunny garden. You can’t go wrong with a easy to care for plant whose bloom is this stunning!

Heuchera Dolce Apple Twist

Any plant can look good for a single season, but this heuchera is gorgeous in every season! When the first leaves of Apple Twist appear they feature red veins which stand out beautifully against the chartreuse background. The yellow leaves take on a more granny smith apple green tone as they age and their ruffled edges add to the dramatic display. The colors will fill your landscape all year long, even in the bare winter months. Like most coral bells, this variety prefers partial to full shade and doesn’t do well with wet feet. Bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds will come by often to visit its creamy white blooms in summer, but you never have to worry about unsavory visitors such as deer bothering it. Hand picked by our experts, don’t miss this multi-seasonal treat!

Veronica ‘Lavender Lightsaber’

You don’t have to travel to a galaxy far far away to find thrills – now you can grow an adventure right in your backyard! ‘Lavender Lightsaber’ presents rosy purple plumes which rise on tall stalks that tower over the landscape. While other veronica tend to stay compact, ‘Lavender Lightsaber’ uses its over sized habit to draw attention to its vertical floral display. The beautiful blooms will leave you starry eyed whether you plant them in a bed or snip them for vertical interest in your next arrangement. Whether planted in mass or as a centerpiece, this perennial is a stunning addition to any landscape. You won’t be the only one who will fall in love, butterflies and other pollinators adore them as well! Grab some of these exceptional perennials for your yard today!

Iris ‘Swans in Flight’

We couldn’t help but add this beauty to the list! Its white petals and golden beards give off an aura of stately elegance. Due to their noble presence and robust stalks, these irises make excellent cut flowers for elegant arrangements. The beauty of this perennial is more than petal deep – this variety is also resilient and boasts high disease resistance. Therefore, it’s relatively low maintenance. Hummingbirds will also want to see what the buzz is about and will flock to the pure white blooms. Incredible beauty and resilience, what more could you ask for? Comes highly recommended by our horticultural experts!

Echinacea Sombrero Tres Amigos

This last one is the definition of fun! Watching the blooms mature throughout their long season is like witnessing a living sunset in slow motion. The blossoms begin a peachy-orange tone which deepens to magenta and then finally finish a rich burgundy. This sun-loving perennial is beloved by local pollinators, particularly butterflies which feast on its nectar rich center cone. This plant is quite durable and doesn’t mind dry soil, making great for drought prone areas. It is also remarkably cold hardy for an Echinacea so even Northern gardens can bask in its colorful beauty! Grab it from our website and add its unparalleled beauty to your beds and borders!
